Stage 1
Method

The method behind every message.

Stage 1 is built on Inversion Selling, the methodology by Kevin French for the buyer-led era. Senior buyers ignore volume and pressure. They answer people who clearly understand their business. So Stage 1 does less, better. Fewer accounts, deeper research, and a first message worth answering.

Why the name

Stage 1 is a buyer agreement, not a seller activity.

In Inversion Selling, every stage of the pipeline is gated by something the buyer agrees to, never by something the seller did. The first stage is Engaged. The buyer agrees the problem is real enough to look into, and gives you time to do it.

That's the moment this product exists to create. Not a sent email, not a logged call. A first meeting with someone who already believes there's a problem worth solving.

"Every stage in your pipeline describes what your seller did. Not one stage describes what your buyer committed to."

Kevin French, Inversion Selling

How Stage 1 applies it

Six rules the product follows.

01

Research before reach

Every account gets 3x3 research: three sources, three facts each. What the company has put out, what its people are doing, and what's happening around them. No message is drafted without it.

02

Lead with a hypothesis

The first message follows the Hypothesis Opening: a research hook, a personal trigger, a hypothesis about the problem, and a binary exit. It's a specific, researched idea about their business, which is the only kind of outreach worth sending to a senior buyer.

03

Invite correction

Every opener ends with a question like "Is that accurate, or is the bigger issue something else?" Being slightly wrong is fine. People correct a hypothesis more readily than they agree to a call, and the correction tells you what actually matters.

04

Precision over volume

Stage 1 watches the accounts you care about and leaves the rest alone until they show buying signals. Daily limits are low by design. There is no "just checking in," and no blasting a list to see what sticks.

05

Reach the committee

Large services deals are bought by several people, and a single contact is a single point of failure. Stage 1 threads the buyer, the champion and the technical lead from the start.

06

You own every send

Stage 1 does the research and drafts the message. You approve the account and own what goes out under your name. The tool amplifies your judgment; it doesn't replace it.

The Hypothesis Opening

Four parts, in order.

Research hook
What happened, named plainly. The signal that put the account on your Board.
Personal trigger
Why it matters to this person in their seat, or their first 90 days in a new one.
Hypothesis
The problem you suspect they have, taken from your own buyer pains.
Binary exit
A question that's easy to answer and easy to correct.
  1. 1Research hookSofia - congrats on the new seat.
  2. 2Personal triggerGiven you're in your first 90 days,
  3. 3HypothesisI suspect analysts wait days for data the business wants the same morning.
  4. 4Exit questionIs that accurate, or is the bigger issue something else?
What Stage 1 never sends
